Javea - a Treasure within a Treasure

Discovered by chance inside a pottery vessel in 1904, the Iberian Treasure of Javea now rests in Madrid. The beautiful resort town of Javea’s local museum hosts only a facsimile of the treasure. The Treasure of Javea’s replica is, however, just as stunning as the original–and, as costume jewelry often does, shines brighter.
Definitely the centerpiece of both the genuine and replica collection is a golden Diadem, decorated with snake-like forms and shaped to be a head dress. It is widely recognized as the finest piece in the collection and it’s seamless construction lends credence to those claims.
Javea has changed quite a bit since the turn of the century treasure discovery. Gone is the snow covered field where the serendipitous wealth-laden pottery was tripped upon, replaced by a jewel of a golf course. Still there, of course, are the snow-capped peaks overlooking the lush valley and the easy access to the seaside fishing village.
