Living & Dying in Andalucía - Bullfights

July 2, 2008 · Print This Article

Bullfighting. Love it or hate it, tout it as tradition or revile it as barbarism, there are some things that can not be denied. Bullfighting is a spectacle, and it is spectacular. The Costa Del Sol of southern Spain has a long tradition of bullfighting, a tradition which it takes very seriously but also celebrates it with an air of holiday often reserved for exhibition soccer matches.

Perhaps the best way to gain perspective on bullfighting is to take the philosopher’s view. One senator, a fierce opponent to the ancient Roman gladiatorial games, refused to speak out against them before observing them. He admitted, after taking the time to spectate, that there was some merit to the games, although he continued to oppose them in legislature.

The skill and bravery of the bullfighters are displayed from April to October throughout Andalucía. Come and stay a while with a vacation rental. Give yourself the freedom to live as you will, with your own home away from home, without having to share a crowded hotel hallway.
